Data equity is health equity

We support community-led efforts to create a public health system that is equitable and provides access to quality health care for all people, with a focus on LGBTQI+ communities and fair labor practices. Just and Equitable health care includes addressing structural, social, and political drivers of health and wellbeing. We support organizations as they seek to eliminate discrimination, listen to communities, break power structures, and so much more.

LGBTQ+ experiences are largely missing from cancer and other health data, and institutions are often not equipped to collect it. Commonly, clinicians and staff may not be comfortable asking questions, leading to low response rates from patients, but being left out of data collection often means being left out of data-driven solutions. We can mitigate this gap with institutional policy change, including looking at how the intersection of race and LGBTQ+ identities impact health and wellbeing.

Data Equity IS Health Equity!

Language and science both offer a clear distinction between the terms “sex” and “gender," but the distinction is often muddled or missing in the settings where precision and clarity is the most critical. We are committed to working with as many institutions and organizations as we can to help distinguish and draw that line, both for the dignity and safety of LGBTQ+ communities, and for the usefulness of data collection and treatment policies for generations to come.
